Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery

In some cases, a provider will perform a procedure known as minimally invasive bypass surgery. During this procedure, the surgeon performs the bypass through a small incision (about 3 inches) in the chest.

The benefits of minimally invasive bypass surgery include a shorter hospital stay after the surgery, a shorter recovery time, and of course, a smaller scar after the patient has recovered. There may also be less bleeding, less chance of infection, and less pain associated with this procedure.

There are two types of minimally invasive bypass surgery available: beating heart surgery and port access surgery. However, not everyone is a suitable candidate for this type of bypass. Ask your provider for further information about minimally invasive bypass surgery.
